Katrina Kaif, the 33-year-old British
origin hindi film actress, was born in Hongkong. From being a fairly introvert,
girl-next-door in her early days to one of the highest paid actresses of
Bollywood of the present times- Katrina has surely come a long way. Apart from
a series of commercially successful Bollywood movies, she has also acted in
Malayalam and Telegu movies opposite icons like Mammootty.
Her first movie Boom which surrounded the
life of a few supermodels and how they got involved in an underworld racket
literally boomed in the box office. She was cast opposite the one and only Big
B and the "Badman" Gulshan Grover in this flick. Terrible acting,
terrible script and most of all, Katrina's inability to speaker proper hindi
and emote on screen- nothing seemed to be in her favor in the beginning.Even
after a forgettable debut, she continued to get a bunch of modeling assignments
and commercials. In 2004, she portrayed a small role in Ram Gopal Verma's
Sarkar.
In 2005, she got her first real breakthrough
from the rom-com "Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?" pairing opposite the Sultan
of Bollywood and her alleged boyfriend of that time, Salman Khan, along with
Sushmita Sen and Sohail Khan. For this movie, she also received Stardust Award
for Breakthrough Performance – Female. But that was just the beginning. Her
exotic looks and thick British accent, which was earlier considered to be her
weaknesses, went in her favor when director Vipul Shah banked her opposite
Khiladi Akshay Kumar in his 2007 blockbuster "Namastey London".
Katrina Kaif became a rage overnight,
looking completely convincing as Jasmeet, the party-lover, happy-go-lucky
half-Brit, half-Indian girl. She went on to cementing her position in Bollywood
by giving a power-packed performance in New York, also starring John Abraham
and Neil Nitin Mukesh. The story revolves around three students of New York
State University and how their life takes a dreadful turn after 9/11.
Both Katrina and John Abraham managed to
shut their critics who doubted their acting abilities previously with their
convincing and moving performances in their respective roles of Maya and
Sameer. Katrina Kaif received her first Filmfare nomination for The Best
Actress for this movie. In the same year, she was starred opposite Ranbir Kapoor in " Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani" which was a box office
success as well. Katrina's comic timing was a pleasant surprise for the
movie-goers. After that, she went on to deliver superhits, one after another
with all the A-listers of Bollywood.
She has acted in three highest-grossing
movies of all time with the three big Khans of Bollywood (Ek Tha Tiger, Jab tak
hai jaan and Dhoom 3). Time and again, this exotic beauty has been named "
Most Desirable Women", " World's sexiest women" by FHM, People's,
The Times of India and the list goes on. Today she is also one of the highest
paid actresses of showbiz and has 1 IFFA, 3 ZEE Cine, 3 Stardust and many more
awards to her kitty. Fans are waiting eagerly to see their favorite heroine
exploring the world of thrill and adventure along with her Ex Ranbir Kapoor in
their much-awaited movie " Jagga Jasoos releasing in July.
