Kareena Kapoor is definitely one of the
most recognised faces in Bollywood. Besides acting she is also a fashion
designer and an author. She comes from a family with rich acting history. Her
parents Randhir Kapoor and Babita Kapoor are both actors. Her elder sister
Karisma Kapoor is also an actress. She was born on the 21st of September 1980
in Bombay(modern day Mumbai) Maharashtra, India. She married actor Saif Ali Khan in
2012 and they have a son- Taimur.
After spending time in commerce and law schools, she decided to pursue her passion and trained at an acting institute in Mumbai. Her big break came in 2000 when she starred in the war film-Refugee. Her great performance received massive positive acclaim and she was described as a natural performer. That role earned her the Best Female Debut Award. It was followed up by other great performances in the films Asoka and Kabhi Khushi Khabhie Ghan. However, these were followed by repetitive roles and commercial failures of movies she appeared in leading to negative reviews.
She reinvented herself in 2004 in the
movie Chameli, and her career has seen a meteoric rise ever since. She has gone
on to pull out stellar performances in various roles from romantic comedies to
crime dramas. She was the female lead in the highly successful and popular
comedy drama - 3 Idiots. Over time, she has established herself as one of the
Bollywood's most popular and highest paid actors.
Kareena Kapoor has been nominated for a massive ten Filmfare Awards and she has carried home six of them. She has won two Critic Awards for the Best Actress. She has also won the best actress award for the film- Jab We Met(2007) and the best supporting actress for- We Are Family (2010).A poll conducted in 2009 by Daily News and Analysis named her as one of the most popular icons in India. In June of 2010,the India's edition of the People's Magazine named her the most beautiful woman in India. In 2013, India Today named her as the most influential woman in India. She has consistently been in the Forbes India's Celebrity 100 from 2012 to 2016. She was seventh in 2012 with an estimated annual earning of U.S $ 11 million.
She has co-authored three books- two nutritional guides and an autobiographical memoir. She also has a clothing line for women. She has been involved in various philanthropic efforts in her career which majorly include promotion of children's education and ensuring safety for women. She was made an advocate for UNICEF to promote education for girls and also improvement of quality based education in India in 2014.
